NPC legacy site
From 15th May 2012, the team delivering the work of the NPC will form the NICE Medicines and Prescribing Centre and will sit alongside the Clinical Guidelines team within the Centre for Clinical Practice.
The NICE Medicines and Prescribing Centre will continue to provide resources which aim to support all those involved in local decision-making. However, there will be some changes to the way in which these resources are produced and published going forward, as part of the overall work delivered by NICE.
All future Medicines and prescribing outputs, including those on local decision-making will be published on the NICE website and signposted from the Medicines and prescribing homepage.
In addition, there will also be changes to the protected area of the website which enables those who are eligible to access additional resources. These changes will not take effect immediately upon the launch of the Medicines and Prescribing Centre. Therefore, access to the current protected area of the website will continue until further notice.
The NHS Constitution gives patients the right to expect local decisions about the funding of medicines and treatments to be made rationally. The NPC has been commissioned to provide an ongoing programme of support to local NHS organisations which aims to provide a degree of consistency in the generic training of local decision-making groups, provide a mechanism for sharing best practice and interaction, and give local NHS organisations the tools to review and develop the processes underpinning local decision-making.
The NPC has produced resources and information which should be of value to all those involved in Local Decision Making.
Individuals with access privileges can log into a protected area of this website to access additional resources and a dedicated discussion forum
NPC is developing an ongoing programme of e-learning for members of local decision making groups.
Resources consist of two core voice over PowerPoint presentations (E-learning events). One discusses the general legal and ethical aspects of local decision-making, the other focuses on judicial review. As well as being able to listen to the presentations, a full transcript is available for downloading. To reinforce learning from these presentations, a case study, FAQs, quizzes and exercises have also been developed. All parts of the e-learning are accessed from the menu to the left, together with hyperlinks to the core resources that provide context for this e-learning resource. It may help to familiarise yourself with these core resources before listening to these presentations.
