Frequently asked questions (FAQ's)
The following frequently asked questions have been developed as a result of general queries received by the NPC.How can I obtain a copy of the BNF?
The distribution lists for the BNF and BNFc are managed centrally by NICE in line with the eligibility criteria available to view here, if you have not received a copy of the BNF or BNFc and believe you are eligible, please contact the BNF order line on 0300 123 1002 or email your enquiry to bnf@binleys.com.
What does MeReC stand for?
MeReC technically does not stand for anything any more, so it is correct to cite it simply as MeReC. It once stood for Medicines Resource Centre before that organisation was absorbed into the National Prescribing Centre. It would not be correct to refer to MeReC as "Medicines Resource Centre" as that organisation no longer exists.
How do I obtain permission to reprint an NPC/MeReC publication?
For MeReC publications and all other NPC publications, please contact Merissa Bellew Web and Publications Manager on (0151) 295 8681.
How can I obtain print copies of Prescribing Nurse Bulletin/other NPC publications?
Prescribing Nurse Bulletin was discontinued in 1999 and is now out of print. Most NPC publications are produced in electronic versions only in order to reduce costs. To ask whether a publication is available in print, please contact Merissa Bellew on (0151) 295 8681.
How can I be added to receive MeReC email alerts?
To ensure you continue to be aware of all MeReC support available to you, please register to receive an email alert when a new MeReC resource is added to this site.
How can I receive the NPC's current awareness bulletin (eCAB)?
To subscribe to eCAB or to change your details, click here.
I am having problems viewing PDFs.
The problem is likely that (a) you are using an outdated version of Adobe Reader, (b) you have limited bandwidth and your connection is timing out before the file has finished downloading, or (c) you are not waiting long enough for the file to finish downloading. Here are two possible solutions:
1. Instead of left-clicking on the link to the PDF document, right-click and select 'Save As'. You can then download the document to your desktop. Double-click on the icon from your desktop to view the document. This will circumvent the time-out problem.
2. Download Adobe Reader 7. This solves the blank screen problem for many users.
What is RSS and why have you added it to this site?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a method of delivering news and updated content from web sites. RSS feeds deliver information in a format called XML to be read by a service or program called an 'aggregator' or 'newsreader'. By using an aggregator, you can have news and updates from multiple sources delivered to a single place on the web or on your desktop. Two free, easy to use aggregators are Bloglines and NewsGator.
Using RSS, where available, can save you from needing to receive multiple e-mail alerts and from needing to visit web sites to see if they have been updated. We have added RSS feeds so that our users can save time and receive updated information at their convenience and in their preferred format.
