Since the last update of these materials the healthcare commission has been superseded by the Care Quality Commission (CQC)

Health care services that are used in hospitals and in the community to improve patient health equally apply in care homes. Care homes fall within a range of care settings and include children’s homes, secure accommodation, respite services, palliative care and intermediate care services as well as typical residential care for adults.
